Way has 52 years of experience in specialty insurance, starting his career in 1964 at Lloyds of London. In 1974, after moving to Houston, Way founded HCC Insurance Holdings (NYSE:HCC), which he led into one of the leading specialty insurance groups in the USA and internationally. In 2007, Way formed Southwest Insurance Partners (SWIP), which would ultimately become Houston International Insurance Group (HIIG) in 2010. After executing several successful acquisitions and capital-raising initiatives, Way has implemented the same strong operating philosophy in HIIG as he did previously with HCC.
Smith has over 35 years of specialty insurance market experience. Prior to joining HIIG in early 2015, he was Chief Executive Officer of International General Insurance Company (UK) Ltd. (IGI), a specialty insurance/reinsurance company based in London. Previously, he worked with Mr. Way at HCC, where he was President of the Insurance Company subsidiaries as well as COO and Board member of the Holding Company. Mr. Smith also had senior roles at Towers Perrin, El Paso Energy and Frank B. Hall.
Haushill has extensive experience serving in senior finance roles at specialty insurance companies, including CFO of American Safety Insurance Holdings, Ltd. and at Argo Group International Holdings, Ltd. Haushill’s career began at KPMG LLP. He is a certified public accountant and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Baylor University.
Byron Way has over 20 years of commercial insurance industry experience, including underwriting, mergers & acquisitions and investor relations. His career began in the late 1990s at HCC Insurance Holdings. He has held senior management positions with public/private insurance carriers and underwriting agencies. He later assumed senior management positions at HIIG and is currently Executive Vice President of HIIG and Chief Executive Officer of HIIG Accident & Health.
